This deck focuses on the Law Dogs faction. The Weird West isn’t a safe place. If the outlaws don’t get you, then one of the many unspeakable horrors that prowl the night probably will. The lives of those sworn to uphold the law and defend the peace aren’t easy, that’s for sure. The Law Dogs faction is home to the sheriffs, deputies, and various townsfolk who support them in their duties. When a simple bullet isn’t enough to deal with a problem, the Law Dogs also have support from mad scientists, seen in outfits like this deck’s Fort 51.

One of the main Law Dogs themes is interacting with bounties on wanted dudes. Hattie DeLorre can impose penalties on the wanted dudes themselves, while “Thunder Boy” Nabbe becomes more powerful when opposing wanted dudes. The Law Dogs’ mad scientists are few in number, so dudes such as Janosz Pratt are best used in a support role creating and weapon gadgets to give to your other dudes. Although they’re not in this deck, the Law Dogs also feature a number of blessed dudes that can call holy powers to your side.

The Law Dogs, Fort 51
Primary Values– Sixes, Fives, and Nines

The Law Dogs starter deck is best played as a slow build. Flood the board with your 0 control point deeds as quickly as possible. Law Dogs don’t have as much cheap Influence as some of the other factions, so building your control with Jobs like Technological Exhibition and Ol’ Fashioned Hangin’ is the safest route to victory.

Ideally, you want to build a weapon gadget each turn to help place bounty to fuel dudes such as Lucy and Thunder Boy, as well as enabling Ol’ Fashioned Hangin’. Janoz Pratt is great way to do so cheaply, and allows you to catch your opponent off guard when combined with Fort 51 to create bounty mid-shootout.

A lot of your weapons take bullets away from your opponent, so use those first. Save your Faster on the Draws to unexpectedly swing momentum.

The Mystical keyword is a sub-theme. Father Tolarios can dig a mystical gadget out, and Erik Samson gains Influence by attaching one.
Last but not least, your Cheatin’ Resolution action cards are all stronger when your hand is legal. Try to fight on your terms to really take advantage of them.

Shootout structure is looking for Full House / Four of a Kind with the key values.

Law Dogs Flex Pack Options – Eights and Sixes

The 8’s in the Flex Pack bring a number of Studs to the party. The dudes are a little on the expensive side, but are great in a fight. Flamethrowers make more studs, and more casualties if you are feeling lucky. Bounty Hunters can call out key wanted dudes and bring an extra stud into the fight. The 7’s in the pack bring some more mad scientists, Auto Revolvers, and both Kidnappin’ and Hunter Protections for when your Law Dogs want to be dirty cops. Stewart Davidson is another starter option to consistently pass out bounties, and the High Stakes Haven provides additional out of town income.

This deck focuses on the Outlaws faction. Doomtown isn’t all black and white; evil comes in various shades of grey, the muddiest of which are the Outlaws. They embody those in the West who live beyond the law and steal for a living, but without the moral scruples of the Anarchists. Their dudes tend to be cheap with low or no influence, but high bullets. Sloane herself (of the faction’s Sloane Gang) is the biggest base shooter of any dude in the game. Outlaws are one of the most aggressive factions in the game, so if you want to run into town square and shoot a man just to watch him die, then this is your faction.

Almost every Outlaw deck involves gaining bounty on your own dudes in some way or another. What’s the point of being bad if you’re not getting the local sheriff’s dander up? This deck’s Desolation Row outfit raises a dude’s bounty in exchange for money, while also gaining all-important control points. The deck also benefits from wanted status via card effects such as extra ghost rock from Milt Clemons, and extra bullets on Marion Seville and Miranda Clarke. The biggest advantage of using bounty on your dudes to get control points with Desolation Row is that you don’t have to play or control deeds to win the game.

Outlaws, Desolation Row
Primary Values – Threes, Fours, and Sevens

Desolation Row is a high-risk, high-reward outfit for the Outlaws. Using the home’s job each turn can give Outlaws the strongest starting economy in Doomtown, but only if your dudes succeed at running the job. The risk is that if opponents oppose this job and win the shootout, you’ll lose both dudes and your outfit’s benefits. Milt Clemons adds to this scofflaw economy by giving you additional money each time he becomes wanted (or more wanted).

To help wins shootouts, half the deck is dedicated to guns and actions to help bully opponents during fights. The outfit also provides the player a trait that causes all your highly wanted dudes to be worth a Control Point. Keep a keen eye for opportunities to use Kidnappin’ against vulnerable targets. If a shootout happens while kidnapping a dude at your opponent’s private location, all your posse will get 2 bounty, and may create winning Control Points on your dudes. The shootout actions and cheatin’ resolutions also give you strong options in shootouts.

Shootout structure is looking for Full House / Four of a Kind with the key values. Five of a Kind is also a strong (Cheatin’) option on 3’s and 4’s.  You can also try for a Flush or Straight Flush in Clubs.

Outlaws Flex Pack Options – Aces and Twos

Aces bring Allie Hensman who, if left unmolested, can win entire games by herself. Add in the bonus of using her in town square, and then having her join the Desolation Row job posse, bringing her home to safety once the job is complete. Outlaw Mask can also bolster the sometimes low influence of Outlaw dudes, while Inner Struggle punishes even incidental lowball cheating with an ongoing handicap. Twos have the ever increasing influence of Fred Aims, the movement of Back Ways and Bluetick, the very thematic Mugging, and potentially game swinging Bottom Dealin’. Additionally Makaio Kaleo, Esq. and Antoine Peterson work to manipulate your bounties and retrieve key jobs (Kidnappin’ anyone?)

This deck focuses on the Entrepreneurs faction, who represent the classic cowboy can-do spirit that won the West. Their dudes tend to cost more than other factions, but compensate with higher influence and/or useful skills. They also pack mid-range bullets that can shoot out of the box. Add a few horses, guns, or gadgets, and they become dangerous indeed. This starter deck focuses on the horses theme, operating through the Morgan Regulators outfit.

The horses themselves give you strong movement effects. Mustang‘s simple effect is one of the strongest movement effects in the game, and a stud with a Pinto is a real threat to your opponent. A harrowed dude like “Dead” Billy Jones and a cavalry escort lets you absorb casualties without sacrificing a dude. Maggie Harris  fetches whatever horse you need. Need some quick cash? Send Irving Patterson along to join Maggie on her job to gain a quick 1 ghost rock.

Entrepreneurs, Morgan Regulators

Values– Eights, Sevens, and Fives

Early on you want to give your shooters some horses. For your first action, if you have a horse in your discard pile, run Maggie Harris’ job. Bring Irving Patterson along to gain the extra ghost rock. If you manage to pick up a Pedro, you will even make money from it. You want to make sure Buckin’ Billy Ballard gets a horse as soon as possible, followed by Henry Moran, Vida Azul, and Maggie Harris to take advantage of the Regulators’ ability to unboot dudes and make them studs. Mid-game you want to use Buckin’ Billy Ballard, Run ‘em Down, and Ridden Down to control town square and attempt to isolate your opponent’s dudes. Continue to use Maggie Harris to make sure all your dudes have horses. Use your horses to spread out and control your opponent’s deeds. Only get into fights where you have expendable draws or sidekicks to soak up any casualties. After a few turns, you should have 6 control points and your opponent will have to come out and fight you due to the Regulators trait and victory should be yours.

Shootout structure is looking for Full House / Four of a Kind with the key values.

Entrepreneurs Flex Pack Options – Sixes and Queens

Swapping 8’s for 6’s makes for a more aggressive horse deck. Trade Buckin’ Billy for Jarrett Blake. Calling the Cavalry is your key card that can let you win shootouts through sheer weight of horses.
Swapping 7’s for Q’s gives you more movement options with Guide Horse letting you pop back to town square. Drag your opponent out of position by sitting on deeds and run away if they come after you hard. J. W. Byrne can make a good starter and become quite formidable with a gun, a horse, and some spurs.

This deck focuses on the Fearmongers faction. The Fourth Ring outfit is a diabolical circus that has magical hexes of incredulous power, clowns with hammers and knives, and freaks of nature! Emphasis on the clowns: this circus certainly has lots of clowns

The original Fourth Ring offers a variety of deck possibilities including high value shooters, abomination attrition, movement, and board control. Whether you’re a returning Whateley fan from the Deadlands RPG or the original Doomtown CCG, a control player, or you just like to play with monsters, Fourth Ring has something to offer you.

This deck type wins by lowering your opponent’s influence using Blood Curse while controlling your opponent’s movement with Paralysis Mark and Phantasm. These hexes let you isolate your opponent’s weaker influence dudes so you can call them out without worrying about pesky studs protecting them. Trigger-happy versions of the deck often pack Unprepared and Hex Slingin’ to manipulate shootout hand ranks. Other cards frequently used in these decks are Shadow Walk (for flexible and surprise movement effects), and Soul Blast (included in the booster pack) for devastating shootout effects.

Fearmongers
Values– Nines, Jacks, and Tens

This Fearmongers Fourth Ring deck seeks to take control board position by use of noon actions. Leonardo “Leon” Cavallo boots an adjacent dude, Phantasm can move an adjacent dude, and Blood Curse penalizes a dude’s bullets and influence. Papa Marias helps you move opposing dudes out of position for following your hucksters. Curse of Failure can then neutralize a dude with limited support, with Unprepared, Ricochet, and Hex Slinging to push you over the top in the ensuing shootout. Abomination dudes can be semi-disposable with Ivor Hawley (exp.1) available to bring them back.

Shootout structure is looking for Full House / Four of a Kind with the key values.

This deck focuses on the Anarchists faction. Deadlands fans that have adventured in The Great Maze might recognize this Anarchist outfit: The 108 Righteous Bandits. Hailing from the charmingly named Devil’s Armpit, the 108 are a ragtag bunch of misfits headed up by T’ou Chi Chow. During his younger days, Chow spent some time in Europe and was influenced by anarchist and communist philosophies, which in turn reflect how the 108 operate.

The 108 steal from the rich and greedy, and distribute their spoils to the poor and needy. They stand up for the little guy against big business and robber barons, acting as Doomtown: Reloaded’s home for things related to laborers in the Western genre. Their members include a large number of martial arts practitioners, so the Anarchists will be your faction of choice if you fancy throwing some Kung Fu moves. The 108 can also call upon the support of several Blessed who bring holy magic to aid their cause.

Note that cards specifically for the Anarchists faction won’t be found in the Base Set or any expansions released prior to Immovable Object, Unstoppable Force. However, those earlier sets still contain plenty of useful cards for the Anarchists.

Anarchists, The 108 Righteous Bandits
Values– Aces, Twos, and Threes

The Anarchist’s starter deck is designed around their ability to outnumber their opponents, move around town, and force your opponent to chase cheaper dudes with more movement.

Early in the game, you’ll want to play a deed or two, Anarchists function best when the town is more built up and they have places to move to. You’ll want to use your cheap and low influence dudes to jump on opponent’s deeds, making your opponent send their more expensive dudes to chase them away.

Because the Anarchists lack strong shooters, you’ll want to use your numbers advantage to fight on your terms. Try to isolate opposing dudes while fighting them with your 0 influence dudes. By using your 0 influence dudes to fight, you’re not risking losing any influence, helping you stay in the game while your opponent risks losing more costly dudes.

Randall and Asakichi Cooke help you see more cards than your opponent by increasing your hand size to 6 (after the first turn) and allowing you to discard an extra card to move one of your dudes anywhere.

Cards like Hawley’s Rose and Yan Li’s Tailoring allow you to turn cheap 0 influence dudes such as Benjamin Washington and Xiaodan Li into dudes that can threaten taking over deeds. Bowie Knife, The Stakes Just Rose, and Sun in Yer Eyes allow those cheap dudes to fight on the same level as much bigger, expensive dudes.

Shootout structure is looking for Full House / Four of a Kind with the key values.

Anarchist Flex Pack Options – Fours and Fives

The Anarchist Flex Pack is a little different, in addition to bringing in the possibilities of using 4’s and/or 5’s, it also introduces the Kung Fu keyword found on several dudes both in the base deck and in the Flex Pack. Kung Fu enables the use of Kung Fu actions and increases the value of the dude by their Kung Fu rating while in play. To use a Kung Fu action, pull the top card of your deck and compare it to the value of the dude performing that action, if the pull is less than the value of your dude, the action succeeds.

Zhu’s Ferocity (2) and Raking Dragons (3) can be subbed for the any of the Twos or Threes in the base deck, giving you additional ways to increase your bullets or decrease your opponents’ value (for Shotguns).

4’s bring in another sidekick, and a couple of versatile dudes. Rabbit’s Lunar Leap can be used as an additional way to bring dudes into a shootout on top of The Stakes Just Rose. Siege of the Orphanage can leverage your overwhelming number of dudes into an abundance of studs. Fives introduce three more Kung Fu Dudes, Rabbit’s Deception to send dudes home, some Pearl Handled Revolvers to make additional studs, and a couple of Saloons for the full force of “Drunken Master Kung Fu.”

This deck focuses on the First Peoples faction. Do you want to command the elements? Move with the wind? Call animal spirits to aid you in shootout? Command the spirits to do your bidding? With the Gateway to Beyond outfit, you stand guard against the world’s evils that ordinary men do not see, using powerful totems such as the strength of our ancestors, and the wisdom of the crow and owl.

The First Peoples faction has some great studs with influence, powerful shootout spirits, and board control totems. Add in a variety of movement tricks that will leave your opponent dazed and confused.  The faction’s outfits add support via card draw, influence, and recycling your spirits, making up a faction with plenty of tricks up its sleeves.

Spirits consist of totems (that attach to locations) and regular spirits (that attach to your dudes). The totems Spirit Trail and Ghostly Communion permit movement to and from deeds, and you can limit your opponent’s movement with the Red Horse’s Tail. If your shamans such as Mazatl and Mick Aduladi aren’t enough, you can recruit Chief Stephen Seven-Eagles as a late game finisher that’s cheap to get into play once you’ve placed your totems around town.

Note that cards specifically for the First Peoples faction won’t be found in the Base Set or any expansions released prior to Immovable Object, Unstoppable Force. However, those earlier sets still contain plenty of useful cards for the First Peoples.

First Peoples, Gateway to Beyond
Values – Tens, Queens, and Kings

This First Peoples deck capitalizes on movement. Either set up the board position to have lopsided shootouts in your favor, or avoid shootouts entirely. A Red Horse Tail or Spirit Trail on your home allows Mazatl to return home with his Noon action, and a Ghostly Communion allows any Shaman to return home (or to the in deck Holy Ground deeds, or deeds turned into Holy Grounds by the Fires of Nanahbozho). Gateway to Beyond will allow you to gain extra uses of your spirits, increasing the disparity in actions well into your favor.

In shootouts, Guiding Wind can either improve your bullets or decrease an opponent’s. Unprepared it the game’s great equalizer, and a Nightmare at Noon can set the stage for a decisive victory.

Shootout structure is looking for Full House / Four of a Kind with the key values.

Nines provide the shaman boost of Black Elk, the stud boost of Zachary Deloria, an Epidemic Lab to make sure that the game will end, and another way to leverage your influence with Friends in High Places. Jacks bring the aforementioned Many Speak as One, Shaman Sarah Meoquanee, token support Charging Bear, and Mischievous Coyote to further boost your shootout hands.
